Student pair offer help

TWO university student friends are offering educational help to pupils and parents in the region while the schools are off.

Carrick Lamont, above, of Annan, is back home from the University of Stirling where he is studying history, politics and professional education.

He said: “All physical teaching has been suspended. However, I am still continuing my studies with all lectures, seminars and deadlines online.”

As well as that, he is offering his services to anyone who might need support or a subject explaining to them. The 18-year-old said: “I saw other teacher colleagues offering their services on Facebook and thought it was only right I could help in any way. These are unprecedented times and will end, but only through pulling together and helping each other where we can. No student should be at a disadvantage because of school closures. By the help provided by myself and colleagues, students will still be able to reach their full potential.

“I already have had a few enquiries and am ready to help in any way possible. We are currently living through challenging times for everyone and it is only right that people should pull through it together.”

His friend Callum Walton, also 18, from Gretna, is studying music performance in drums and percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester, and is also offering to help youngsters. He said: “All of my lessons, exams and everything I have worked extremely hard for have all been cancelled this year, but the practice doesn’t stop there! The current situation is a difficult one to be in, which has never happened before in this generation, but it is great to see the community pull together as one.

“Along with many others, I decided to make a post in a on Facebook to let people know I am offering my help wherever needed. “I am a passionate performing musician with knowledge in the performance, recording, theory and business and management sectors of music, and I am ready to answer any questions or help in any way I possibly can.”

Both students can be contacted through Facebook messenger.
