Caitlin Stewart, 19, from Lochmaben, and Louise Gibson, of Lockerbie, both work at Westfield Care Home looking after elderly and vulnerable people. But they also have high risk relatives at home. So they young pair have had a caravan pitched up at the care home to allow them to look after their patients and protect their families.
Louise, 17, said: “We took the decision upon ourselves to move out into a caravan outside the home to protect our families, who are at high risk and who are key workers. “We were kindly given the caravan by Craig Clark so that we were able to move out and continue to care for our residents and support them through this tough time.
“Like many jobs, it has its hard times but we are luckily supported by the brilliant management, carers, domestic assistants, kitchen staff and maintenance at Westfield.
“We miss our families and friends more each day but with video calls it makes it easier as we can see their faces and hear their voices.” Caitlin and Louise moved in to the caravan almost a month ago, when the first Covid-19 case was confirmed in the home.
Looking to the future, she added: “One day down is another day closer to normality.”
