The memorial will be attended by Princess Anne and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, and residents are asked to ensure their bins are ready for collection before 7.30 am.
A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Council said: “To avoid disruption of the centenary commemorations of the Quintinshill rail disaster, residents in Springfield, Gretna Green and adjacent areas are asked to ensure that their bins are in their normal collection position before 7.30 am that day.
“Bins should normally be out by 7.30 am but, as residents don’t expect the refuse collection vehicles to come round until mid-morning, some are in the habit of putting bins out later.”
The timetable for the day includes a parade forming at the memorial cairn behind the Blacksmiths Shop at 10.25 am, which will be followed by an ecumenical service and wreath laying at 11 am.
The Quintinshill poem will then be read in the Stormont Hall at 11.40 am, a roll of honour will be unveiled in Gretna Old Parish Church at 12 noon and a tree will be planted at the war memorial at 12.10 pm.
An act of remembrance, including the Last Post, a one minute silence, three volleys and a wreath laying, will also be held at Quintinshill Bridge at 12.20 pm but due to space and safety issues the general public will not be able to access the event at this site.
