£330k roadworks to close bypass

ROADWORKS will close a section of the Dumfries bypass this weekend.

The £330,000 of essential maintenance works which will start on Friday May 22 on the A75 between the driving range and Marchfield Rounall.
Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works over four nights using an innovative crack and seat process which recycles materials on site to replace the existing road surface and improves its resilience over the long term.
This is the 10th time this environmentally friendly process has been carried out on Dumfries and Galloway’s trunk roads over the last two years as part of an overall investment of £5 million.
Scotland TranServ stress that safety is of the utmost importance, and so to protect its workforce, motorists and local residents the works will take place within a closure of the A75 between Edinburgh Road Roundabout and Lockerbie Road Roundabout from Friday at 8 pm until Monday at 6 am.
Scotland TranServ contract director Gordon Wilson said: “This vital improvement scheme will not only improve the road surface but also ensure Dumfries and Galloway’s roads are in optimum condition ahead of the busy tourist season.
“In order to minimise disruption to local residents and motorists alike the works will take place when traffic flows are lighter. However, I would urge motorists to plan their journeys.”
A local diversion for westbound motorists will be in place westbound via the A780 Annan Road, Shakespeare Street, Whitesands and Glasgow Street.
Eastbound traffic will travel via Glasgow Street, Buccleuch Street, Loreburn Street, English Street and A780 Annan Road.
Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place.
