Curtain still down on theatres

REOPENING of the region’s theatres remains uncertain as lockdown continues to ease.

Both the Little Theatre in Lockerbie and the Old Well Theatre in Moffat, above, closed their doors in March, and in that time several events have been cancelled or postponed.
Neither has been able to set a reopening date and both continue to monitor the situation.
Little Theatre chairwoman Lilias Nichol explained the committee closed ahead of the official advice as many of their members are in the at-risk group.
And she said: “This obviously remains the case so we have no plans at present to re-open.”
Referring to events, she said: “Our venue was a location for The Spring Fling and again we were meant to be hosting an exhibition of Bella Green’s work but that was cancelled.
“The next event on our calendar would have been our autumn play but this is now on hold.
“There were no other events planned before lockdown.”
And looking to the future, she said: “If the situation has improved significantly, and there is no second wave of the virus by the beginning of August, our committee will meet to discuss our plans for the future.
“Social distancing in the auditorium will be very difficult in our little theatre – even if audiences are small – and we will have to be sure it’s safe for everyone before we can consider reopening and putting on events.”
At the Old Well Theatre, anyone who has purchased tickets for events can get a refund or exchange for future performance from the Box Office.
