Bert Dickson, 72, believes that many drivers passing through his village do not stick to the 40 mph speed limit and 20 mph speed limit during school runs.
He said: “I and neighbours stand and watch the speed they go through at and it’s ridiculous. “I have measured a skid mark some 35 feet long and 10″ wide just short of the bridge, a lorry obviously, and 40 mph wouldn’t produce a mark like that.”
For the past four years Bert has been in touch with numerous politicians, including his local MP, about the issue, and in that time he says the only new safety addition that has been introduced were speed signs near the school.
Bert was hopeful that an electronic speed check sign would be installed, which would give people an indication of what speed they were driving and whether or not they were speeding.
But, a spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Council revealed, yesterday, that six signs to be erected locally have been ordered using Annandale and Eskdale area committee funding. He said: “They are due for delivery this week or next week. Once they arrive, we’ll erect them.”
