Capturing the Cornet

LANGHOLM may not be getting its much loved Common Riding this year but a local artist has captured the spirit of the annual festivities in a new painting.

Janet Carson, who lives in Canonbie, has released 100 limited prints of her artwork depicting the famous ride up the Kirk Wynd.

Explaining how it came about, she said: “I have had the idea for this painting for a year or two but never got round to it until lockdown and I am furloughed from work.

“I have always loved Common Riding and especially watching the Cornet and followers gallop up the Kirk Wynd in the morning.

“I’m not associated with the Common Riding in any way but have friends in Langholm and work there at Glen Isla and just love catching up with people that I have not seen from one year to the next. I always have a right good day!”

The original and the prints will soon be available at Homespun in Langholm for anyone interested. Janet is also taking orders via her Facebook page.
