Charity horse ride passes through Moffat

AN actor will pass through Moffat tomorrow evening as part of a charity horse ride the length of the UK.

Louis Hall, who is usually based in London but moved back home to Fife for lockdown is riding his pony Irelanda from John O’Groats to Land’s End for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, in memory of his friend, Leo van Heyningen.

His route is taking him some 1085 miles and around 60 days and he is hoping to raise at least £10,000 for Cystic Fibrosis.

Louis set off on July 18, and will be passing through Moffat on Friday night, with an overnight stop with carriage driver Anna Grace, and heading through Moffat and Beattock on Saturday morning.

Anna is planning to accompany him through the town with her pair of chestnut Welsh ponies and carriage, along with backstepper, Imogen Paterson.

Louis Hall said the ‘Big Hoof’ trip, which he expects will take at least 60 days, is in tribute to Leo van Heyningen, who died earlier this year, aged 26, and to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

In the past, Louis has ridden through Australian deserts and Andalucian mountains — but this challenge will be different.

He said: “This one will be undertaken in a climate and at a time that is foreign to all of us, and in a recovering world of uncertainty.”

Follow his progress on Facebook, with links to his route and photos of his journey

Donations to the charity can be made through the Just Giving website, simply search for “The Big Hoof.”

Each and every donation – big and small – will help in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
