Meal deal for school pupils

SCHOOLS in the region are now participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

From this week, pupils can buy £1 meal deals on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the initiative.

The UK Government put in place the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to support the recovery of the economy after the impact of coronavirus

Councils were invited to register and Dumfries and Galloway was successful for the school meals catering service.

A spokesman said: “Following our council’s extensive work over the summer to support vulnerable families through the supply of food boxes and direct payments, this further outlines our support to families.

“We’re aware that there may be some anxiety about the return to school, with some families choosing to bring food from their homes. So, we hope it will encourage our families to use our schools meals service and have confidence in the service we provide.”
