Christy Elliot, who died earlier this month aged 87, was part of the Milnfield side for 25 years, from 1947-72.
He also played 12 times for Scotland – and in his first game at Murrayfield in 1958, he kicked the penalty which gave his side a 3-3 draw against England.
Christy was a key member of the Langholm team which won the unofficial Scottish club championship and the Border League in 1959, playing at centre.
He also played for the South of Scotland on several occasions, including against Australia in 1957; against South Africa in 1960; and against New Zealand; as well as captaining the Scottish Districts side which beat South Africa at Mansfield Park in 1965.
Known for his long range penalties, it is thought that he scored over 2000 points during his career.
Despite no longer playing, he still enjoyed watching the sport and until recently was a regular at Langholm’s home games.
