In total 1720 crisis payments were made in Dumfries and Galloway between April and June – an increase of 65 per cent on the same time in 2019.
The grants are to help pay for essentials such as food, heating costs, and household necessities. And the fun has paid out a total of 23,495 crisis grants to households in Dumfries and Galloway since it was established in 2013.
Commenting, South Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine said: “The Scottish Welfare Fund is an important example of the kind of action the SNP has taken to ensure there is additional financial support in place for people in Dumfries and Galloway coping with the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
