The Pagani family, who run the Cafe Royal, say they have been motivated to do something after witnessing ‘the increasing need of the town’s children and pensioners who have been left behind since the beginning of the pandemic’.
And their new Chip In to Tuck In scheme was set up following an approach by a local man who donated £400 to help provide free meals for those who are hungry or deserve a treat but can’t afford it.
The cafe team have matched his donation and received another £400, so the launch fund now has £1200 in it, meaning that 240 people can be fed and watered without needing to pay.
John Pagani explained: “The offer is available for people who want to eat in our covid secure cafe or to take home.
“It starts November 1, we are committed to funding it for the whole of November.
“We also hope that local people who aren’t struggling as much will donate into the fund and perhaps extend it to Christmas. Annan is a town of friendly, supporting and generous folk. We are so proud to live here and have our business here.”
