Colin is region’s superhero

A DEDICATED postmaster from Castle Douglas has been named Dumfries and Galloway’s High Street Hero.

Colin Wilson scooped the regional title in the Scotland Loves Local High Street Heroes awards.

He was chosen for his efforts during the pandemic to keep the service going.

Colin-single handedly ran Castle Douglas Post Office for 13 weeks through lockdown, working alone six days a week to protect his staff.

He was praised by many local businesses who were able to fulfil their orders due to his efforts.

In addition, he supported elderly family members delivering necessary items and sacrificed seeing his first grandson, born in lockdown, to ensure he was kept safe.

Reacting to the award, Colin, who has run his King Street business for 26 years, said: “I’m honoured and very grateful that my efforts have been recognised.

“It’s a privilege to serve as postmaster to this remarkable wee town.

“To be able to keep families in touch with each other with cards and gifts through the post during the pandemic was really satisfying and allowing businesses to continue to trade with online orders through the postal system means our high street continues to prosper with no shop closures.”
