Memories of burgh shared in new publication

RIDING of the Marches fans will enjoy the trip down memory lane offered in a new Annan booklet.

‘Annan Memories’ has been produced by Lisa Barbour, Don Barty and Neil Wallace and is a collection of articles from past RoM magazines.

It explains the event’s traditions and how they came about, profiles some of the town’s famous sons, recalls cancelled years, remembers highlights of history and much more.

Articles include Where is our Royal Burgh?; Ink Bottle Lodge; How They Rode the Marches in 1850; Annan Life in WW2; and The Solway Crossing That Never Was.

Furthermore, there’s a picture quiz and some old adverts to peruse.

Lisa said: “We were conscious that many people enjoy reading the annual ROM magazine, and some even have collections, so we wanted to continue this in a slightly different way this year.

“All the articles are from previous magazines, but they have all been heavily edited or completely rewritten and there are many new pictures.

“It’s on sale now from various outlets in the town and we believe it would be a perfect Christmas stocking filler.”

In the foreword to Annan Memories, RoM honorary president Barbara Laidlaw said: “Memories are important to us all, and all the more so as we face life’s difficulties. That is when recalling happier times can be all the more helpful.

“We trust you will find this special publication of interest and enjoyment.”
