New travel restrictions spark Xmas song idea

Scottish musician Adam Nash, who grew up in Dumfries, has released ‘If I Don’t See You This Christmas’, and says it encapsulates the emotions and uncertainty many people have experienced this year.
The classically trained violinist is now based in the Netherlands and, because of travel restrictions, he is unable to come back to Scotland this Christmas.
He said: “I wrote this song because I miss my family in Scotland.
“I moved to Holland some years ago to be with my Dutch girlfriend.
“Our relationship ended about 18 months ago but I decided to stay.”
Adam had been planning to visit his homeland in the summer, but Covid-19 restrictions stopped him flying home.
He added: “I was hoping things would be better by Christmas and I booked a flight to Glasgow months ago, but it looks like things are still goosed.
“My dad is unwell and has dementia and it makes it worse knowing that I can’t visit him, especially as he’s getting so frail now.
“I want to see him as soon as possible but I can’t.
“I wonder how many more chances I’ll have to visit him.
“I started to think there must be million of people who won’t see their families this year because of corona – I thought I’d write a song that conveyed how I feel, in the hope that others would empathise.”
Although classically trained, Adam has branched out and this latest offering is string-supported pop.
As he is unable to see his family in real life, Adam has planned some online get togethers such as a quiz and carol singing.
Adam has also decided to donate 20 per cent of anything he makes from the song to housing and homelessness charity Shelter Scotland.
