Dumfries and Galloway Council own the former caravan site in Glasgow Road and want to dispose of it now that the town’s pool plans have fallen through.
It extends to approximately 11,700 square metres and is included in the Local Development Plan (LDP) as a protected area of open space.
The LDP states: “Full planning permission was granted for a swimming pool and leisure centre in June 2015. Should this permission not be implemented, the following will be important considerations for any future development proposals.
“A burn runs along the western boundary, a Drainage Impact Assessment will be required and dependent on its findings, a Flood Risk Assessment will need to be submitted and agreed with SEPA and the council as part of any planning application.
“A new access should be formed on to the roundabout on the B7068. The existing boundary trees should be retained where possible.”
In January 2016 the local authority agreed to enter into a contract with
Lockerbie Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre Trust towards providing a community facility there, incorporating a swimming pool and leisure centre.
The contract ran for the period up until 11 June 2020 and was to involve a transfer of ownership for a nominal £1 value. However, this never took place and the trust has since been dissolved.
Lockerbie Scout Group briefly showed an interest in the area last year, but their Stage 1 Community Asset Transfer application was withdrawn in April.
Officials are now proposing to place the land on the open market for sale, with any monies going into Lockerbie and Lochmaben Common Good Fund.
