Medal magic for Alison

A SPECIAL ceremony has been held at Dumfries and Galloway College to honour a staff member.

Alison Martin, who is a team leader at the college, was presented with the prestigious British Empire Medal by Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong as her family, students and colleagues looked on.

Alison, from Annan, was awarded the prize in recognition of her services to young people in the Dumfries and Galloway area, having played a pivotal role in The Prince’s Trust team that she leads.

Delighted at the celebrations, Alison said: “I am absolutely honoured to receive the BEM for services to young people in Dumfries and Galloway.

“I have had the privilege of working with some of the most amazing young people in our region and work with such fantastic and dedicated staff that every day is a pleasure.

“This award is for every young person I have had the privilege of working with over the years and for everyone involved in our programme.”

Congratulating her, college principal Joanna Campbell said: “Alison is a valued and exemplary member of our college community and we were all proud to stand with her as she received her well-deserved British Empire Medal.

“She has worked so very hard to make a positive impact on all the students and staff she has worked with at our college and with The Prince’s Trust.

“I am sure she will continue to be a great example for others to follow and I hope she enjoys celebrating her accolade with her friends and family.”

All aspects of the ceremony, and the following lunch, were carried out in full compliance with social distancing and other hygiene measures.
