A PENSIONER who became immobilised after slipping on ice in the early hours of the morning has praised the milkman who she says saved her life.
Whilst on his Castle Douglas round early last Wednesday morning, Alan McWilliam of Roan’s Dairy heard what he initially thought was an animal.
However, he quickly realised that the sound was in fact a cry for help from an elderly woman lying on the icy ground.
And it was soon clear that the 81-year-old wasn’t ‘milking it’, as Mr McWilliam noticed the ground’s moisture underneath the woman had been absorbed by her dressing gown – suggesting she had been stuck there for an hour or more.
After raising the alarm with the nearby Minnigaff nursing home, staff helped bring her in from the cold.
Speaking to the Daily Record, the woman, who did not want to be named, said she fell whilst taking out rubbish and was unable to get back up on her feet despite several attempts.
She added that she “really thought” she was going was going to die, and that one more hour outside could have killed her.
The pensioner says she’s now looking to get in touch with Alan, adding: “If it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be here.”
Commenting on the incident, Tracey Roan, owner of Roan’s Dairy said that her drivers are “like the fourth emergency service,” adding: “Not all heroes wear capes.”
