The popular radio presenter, who is fronting his first tour in five years, brings ‘The Trouble with being Des’ to the Corner House Hotel in Annan tonight.
An extended version of his hilarious sold-out run at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, the show focuses on his realisation that he’s at a crossroads in life and he has a few things to get off his chest.
Looking forward to his first visit to the Royal Burgh, Des told the Observer: “I’ve wanted to play Annan for a while as I want to go to places that I’ve not been before.
“I’m used to bigger gigs in theatres and arts centres but I love these much smaller gigs as they’re in your face.”
He added: “It’s a much better experience as the audience is right in front of you and you get to see the whites of their eyes.
“It’s almost like performing in someone’s living room and you’ve got to be on top of your game as you can’t just hide back and expect the laughter.”
Des started in stand-up aged just 19 and has enjoyed a successful and diverse career across television and radio.
A popular presenter on Capital Radio’s Scottish breakfast show, his latest venture sees him fronting a brand-new comedy series on BBC Radio Scotland.
But admitting his greatest pleasure is on the road, Des said: “I love being back on tour. It’s where my career began and being on stage is still the greatest buzz for me.
“With a live audience you never know what’s going to happen and there’s nothing like playing to a home crowd.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have a great career, but I’ve also scored some impressive own goals, so this show is joyfully self-deprecating.”
