Mass testing is a first for the region

MASS covid testing continues in Langholm today after a spike in cases in the town and nearby Canonbie.

Everyone living in the DG13 and DG14 postcode areas is being encouraged to come forward for testing – regardless as to whether or not they are currently experiencing symptoms.

It is the first time that mass testing has taken place in Dumfries and Galloway and NHS chief officer Julie White said: “We’re currently seeing a particular concentration of cases in the Langholm and Canonbie areas.

“We are encouraging all residents in these postcode areas to come forward to be tested over these four days – in the hope that we can we can identify live cases and help halt the spread.

“Testing of a population in general has not been undertaken before within Dumfries and Galloway, and this process and its outcomes will be closely monitored.”

A testing site has been set up at the Kilngreen car park, pictured, and will remain there until tomorrow, Tuesday.

Appointments must be made in advance through the www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test website.

Behind the scenes on new Lockerbie drama

A NEW series based on parts of the Lockerbie Disaster is now showing on Sky this week. Featuring Colin Firth and Catherine McCormack, ‘A Search for Truth’ was inspired by the memoirs of Dr Jim Swire, who lost his daughter Flora in the 1988 tragedy. Filming took place in Scotland and Morocco in early 2024 and Annandale Herald editor Fiona Reid went on the set to meet the cast and crew and find out more about it.
