Festival podcast evokes event spirit

KNOCKENGORROCH has launched a brand new podcast inviting festival fans to explore the history and spirit of the annual world music celebration held in the Carsphairn hills.

In the pod, festival producer Katch Holmes is joined by an array of Knockengorroch’s contributing musicians, staff and volunteers who are taking listeners on a journey from the launch of the event in 1998 up to the present day.

Delving deep into archives and anecdotes from over the years, the multi-episode series being released over the next few months aims to get to the heart of the ethos of Kirkcudbrightshire’s autumnal musical fiesta, what makes it unique — and what’s kept thousands retreating to the Galloway hills each year to attend.

In the already-released the first episode ‘Beginnings’, Katch speaks to the festival’s founders Liz and Simon Holmes about the themes of social idealism and musical discovery, and what inspired the couple to launch Knockengorroch more than 20 years ago. Jonny Hardie of Old Blind Dogs and Nick Jenkins of Outland Trio — two bands on the line-up of the inaugural festival — also feature on the debut podcast.

Liz Holmes said: “We continue to find new ways to bring the special experience of Knockengorroch to people both at home and around the world and we’re delighted to have launched our very own podcast.

“The podcast allows us to delve deep into the characters and stories of all of those who have played a part in the story of Knockengorroch so far and we hope it provides some comfort for our loyal fanbase while we put plans in place for the rescheduled festival this September.”
