Galloway announces South Scotland candidacy

GEORGE Galloway has announced his candidacy in the South Scotland region at the upcoming Holyrood elections.

The former Labour MP will appear as the lead candidate on the regional list for the newly-formed All 4 Unity party, of which he is the deputy leader.

Currently an outspoken political commentator and harsh critic of the SNP and Scottish independence movement, he has been out of elected office since 2015, when he failed to maintain a shock majority scooped up at the 2012 Bradford West by-election under the Respect party, which he also led.

Controversy surrounding Galloway was ramped-up locally last December when he attended a Queen of the South match at Palmerston Park despite coronavirus restrictions prohibiting fans attending, later justifying his actions by claiming his family “has five season tickets” and that he was “about to become a sponsor”.

He said in a tweet this week: “Most opponents of the separatist SNP are hoping to see me at Holyrood bursting the nationalist bubble. Only the people of South Scotland can make it happen.”
