Lock up your vehicles warning

POLICE have warned Lochside residents to make sure their vehicles are locked after a series of attempted thefts during the week.

Several reports have been made to the police about a person or persons entering insecure vehicles in the area during the early hours of March 9/10.

A number of posts on social media have shown people trying to gain access to cars, houses and garages.

Mark Crosbie, a relative to one victim, shared CCTV footage from Wednesday evening at Lochside Road of a man in a long grey jacket.

He said: “At 8.20 pm a man entered my uncle’s garage on Lochside Road. He entered a car that was open as well as checking the other car doors to see if they were unlocked. He was obviously looking for money.

“He also went to my uncle’s window and tried to lure him out the house but my uncle did not open the door.

“Make sure your cars and houses are locked in the Lochside area. I want to raise awareness. I’d hate for someone who is older and not as wise to be targeted.”

A police spokesman added: “There have been several reports made to police of person(s) entering insecure vehicles in Lochside area of Dumfries during hours of darkness on March 9/10. Can you please ensure your vehicle is locked and secured prior to leaving unattended.”

Meanwhile, a kitchen window was smashed at a Hillside Drive property in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
