Border crossings still banned

STAY local is the new message from today, replacing Stay At Home. However, crossing the border for other than essential journeys remains banned for the time being.

Hopes of an early ending to the Covid-19 restrictions on travel between Scotland and England have been dampened by Scottish Transport Minister Michael Matheson.

He was responding to one of the final questions of the Parliamentary session last week from the then Dumfriesshire representative Oliver Mundell.

In a written response, Mr Matheson stated that the Scottish Government’s timetable for easing restrictions was being kept under review.

He said: “We recognise how difficult it is for people not to be able to see friends and family, who live beyond Scotland and these measures will not be in place for longer than we judge it necessary.

“These measures have been put in place to protect communities in Scotland and limit the importation of new strains of the virus.”
