Names call for Queen’s award
COMMUNITY SPIRIT . . . previous winners include Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes

DO YOU know a local group whose work in the region is worthy of the royal seal of approval?

Nominations are currently being sought for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS), the highest award given to volunteer organisations in the UK.

Organisations should be at least three years old, have no fewer than three members and be volunteer led.

Furthermore, they should be seen to have a considerable impact on the community, and be making a considerable difference in the community.

Previous winners include Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes, Dumfries and Galloway Befriending Project, Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust, Sports Driving Unlimited, and Dumfries and Galloway LGBT Plus.

Commenting, Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries Fiona Armstrong said: “Dumfries and Galloway punches well above its weight when it comes to volunteer effort. This badge of excellence is only given to the very best, and we can be proud that we do have some of the very best in the country.”

Anyone can nominate a group for a QAVS, as long as they are not one of its employees, or volunteers. Nominations can be submitted between April and September at: https://qavs.culture.gov.uk/
