Artist releases Lockerbie paintings

PAINTINGS of the Lockerbie bombing have been released to the public for historical purposes.

Bristol based artist Merlin Vernon painted the scenes, named ‘The Evil of Terrorism’, just after the 1988 tragedy.

The two oils on canvas depict convicted bomber Abdelbaset Al Megrahi and an accomplice looking at the plane crash with the background ablaze.

Merlin told the Annandale Herald this week: “I was inspired by the horror of what happened that day/night.

“The work was exhibited at the Royal West Academy in 2004 and the PRSC Gallery in 2019.”

He is also releasing another piece, which features four items found near the bomb site by a volunteer from Lockerbie, who wishes to remain anonymous. They are a Pan Am branded shoe horns and three American coins.
