They have received £16,687.50 from Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Coastal Benefit Fund towards staffing costs for organising the inaugural history town festival, which is set to take place later this year.
And they are now recruiting for a festival director.
The money will also help pay to develop a website to promote Annan as the History Town and to attract more visitors.
The community group has also previously sourced funding to commission a feasibility study to look at how Annan’s history can be used to make the town more attractive.
Group chairman Richard Brodie this week said: “This new grant is great news because the support of a festival director will not only ensure that the festival will be run properly, but that it will be promoted by a professional on all forms of media.
“We have advertised to attract someone with relevant experience and enthusiasm who will liaise with other community groups and businesses to get them involved in the project and in the festival. An important aspect of the job will be to ensure that all the events are organised in a covid-safe way following government guidelines.
“Last year we had a long list of events mapped out for our “Safe Oot- Safe in” festival, involving over 20 community organisations. We are currently seeing how many of these ideas will work this year and looking for new individuals and groups to take part.”
