Region reopens for visitors

TOURISTS are back in Dumfries and Galloway.

Visitor attractions, accommodation providers and hospitality businesses in the region have started to reopen once again.

And tourism bosses were out and about today (Mon) to offer their support to the industry.

VisitScotland regional leadership director Paula Ward was joined by representatives from South Scotland Destination Alliance at the Galloway Activity Centre.

She said: “As we start to welcome back visitors to our communities, we continue to focus on the recovery of the industry, building a destination and visitor experience which allows tourism to thrive now and in the future.

“I am so incredibly proud of our tourism and hospitality businesses and operators. They are the perfect example of entrepreneurial spirit – they have not given up because of what the virus has thrown at them. They have shown incredible flexibility, they’ve embraced new operating procedures to ensure that their places of business adhere to strict health and safety guidance and at the same time they continue to offer a fantastic experience.”

South Scotland Destination Alliance project manager Jemma Reid added: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the South of Scotland and seeing our businesses get back to what they do best.

“We’re committed to working with businesses, supporting their reopening and helping extend the season by promoting our fantastic region as a world-class, year-round destination.”
