Lockerbie gears up for Big Lunch

RESIDENTS in Lockerbie are being asked for their views on a proposed new community hub for the town.

The Old School Committee have set up an online survey about their project. And they are appealing for townsfolk to take part so they can gather public opinion.

Paper copies of the survey are available from Lockerbie Library or the Red Cross shop and to take part in the online survey visit: www.surveymonkey.com/s/Lo ckerbieOldSchool

The committee recently received £5320 from Dumfries and Galloway Area Committee to help them with their feasibility study to find out if there is need for the proposed community centre.

The study will also establish if the Old School is technically and financially viable, fit for purpose, accessible for the disabled and environmentally friendly.

Meanwhile, the committee are gearing up to take part in the annual Big Lunch event this weekend.

They are hosting the food filled event for the second year running on Sunday, complete with family games, face painting, stalls and craft activities.

A bunting decoration competition and cupcake competition is also happening with prizes for the most original design and tastiest cake.

Committee member Gillian Moffat said: “The Big Lunch is a chance to get together with the community to share food and talk, laugh and hopefully make new friends.

“The committee are looking forward to welcoming everyone to this free event for all the community, all that we ask is people bring food to share.”

The aim the lunch event is to encourage communities to form better relations leading to reduced social isolation and reduced crime.

Lockerbie’s Big Lunch kicks off at 11 am and everyone will sit down and share food at 12.30 pm.

Competition entries should be brought to the Old School’s car park between 11 and 12 pm to judged.
