Talent show time for fundraising scout group

DANCING dogs, acrobats and people of all talents are being sought to take part in a talent show to raise money for Lockerbie Scout’s ailing Scout Hall.

The Lockerbie Scout Group are hosting a Scouts Have Got Talent event later this month to help raise funds for vital improvements to their base.

Troop leader Robert Humes said: “The group has operated out of Lockerbie Scout Hall for over 30 years and during that time, the hall has remained in its original state.

“The time has come for essential repair and renovation, enabling an all inclusive facility offering disabled access, a sustainable and efficient building and a more suitable environment for all our members.”

Troop leaders already have a renovation project in mind for the building and are currently looking into sponsorship and grant routes to help them realise their ambition.

Robert said: “We have under taken a stakeholder consultation with extensive feedback and offers of help and support from the children, young people and parents.

“The community have always been extremely supportive of Lockerbie Scout Group and every positive comment, donation, encouraging word and participation at events are immensely appreciated.

“We hope that our commitment to the values and principles of Scouting displayed through the respect and positive attitude of our members is apparent when we are out and about in the community.”

Hours of ‘tireless’ fundraising goes into keeping the hall going from year to year, explained Robert.

The Scouts are currently appealing for talented acts to take part in their first ever talent show on June 20.

Robert said: “The talent show was inspired by the TV show and it was felt that the current theme would encourage Scouts, parents and members of the community to come along and join in a fun night.

“It is the first talent show we have held and we are looking for more acts to join us – all ages are welcome to apply.”

Prizes of up to £50, plus a family pass for Mabie Farm Park, are among the goodies for contestants who come out on top. Applications can be made via Lockerbie Scout Group Facebook page or by emailing [email protected]. uk.

Tickets for the show can be purchased from Margaret’s Newagents and doors to the event open at 6.30 pm.
