A 4G pitch will be put in place in the coming weeks for Lowland League side Gretna 2008 and it will also mean the local community have a pitch they can hire out all year round.
Workers have started to dig up the grass and Gretna 2008 chairman and community councillor Alex Thomson couldn’t hide his delight at the “promising” developments.
He said: “It’s absolutely fantastic we are underway with getting a 4G pitch at Raydale Park.
“We’re over the moon and absolutely buzzing to see the pitch. Hopefully with the all-weather 4G pitch it’s not just going to be used for Gretna 2008, it can be used by the community.
“For the community side it’s huge as during the winter time there’s no pitches where people can play. I know some people from the area travel long distances to play on pitches, so it is helping the environment as well.
“On the football side it’s supposed to take up to ten weeks. We’ve asked the Lowland League if we can play our first few matches away from home which they have accepted.
“Once the pitch is up and running, we’re hoping to have an open day.”
