Celebrity names are a bin win

KEEP your eyes peeled for Dustbin Bieber, Trash Gordon and Bin Diesel on the region’s roads.

For they have just some of the celebrity inspired names given to the region’s bin lorries, after a competition involving school children

The 24 vehicles used to collect waste will now be known by their new monikers which also include The Binions, Ter-Bin-Nator, Greta Binberg and Binny McBinface

And two new electric vehicles, which operate in Nithsdale and Wigtownshire, will be known as Pollution Solution and Lambergreenie.

Primary and secondary pupils were invited to put forward name suggestions and the top choices have now been emblazoned across the vehicles.

Winning entrants came from pupils ranging from P1 to S1 from mainly primary schools including Amisfield, Cargenbridge, Castle Douglas Primary and High School, Crossmichael, Dalbeattie, Dalry, Gatehouse, Glenluce, Heathhall, Hottsbridge, Kelloholm, Kells, Kirkcudbright, Loreburn, Newington, North West Community Campus, Penpont, St. Michaels, St Teresa’s RC, Troqueer, and Wallace Hall.

Congratulating them, Councillor Andy Ferguson said: “Well done to all the primary school pupils who entered the bin lorry naming competition. There were so many fantastic and very funny suggestions and the judges really struggled to choose the winners!

“Residents throughout Dumfries and Galloway can now keep an eye out for the newly named lorries as they travel throughout the region doing their rounds.”
