A TEENAGE girl has died and a woman and boy remain in ‘critical’ conditions after a family were involved in a horror motorway smash on Wednesday afternoon.

Two other children aged 12 and seven and a six-month-old baby girl, along with a 45-year-old man, who was the driver of their vehicle, were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with injuries after the crash near Eaglesfield.

The teenage girl was also taken by ambulance to the Carlisle hospital where she later died.

Meanwhile, an air ambulance transferred the woman, 42, to the James Cook University Hospital, more than 100 miles away in Middlesbrough.

And the 17-year-old boy is being cared for by specialists at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle.
