And since then plans have been getting made to restore the shop to its former glory.
Speaking this week, owner Eunice Welsh explained the insurance company has contractors lined up ready to work – but listed building consent has not yet been granted.
She said: “We are just waiting for the permission so work can actually start. We will be reopening as soon as possible, but we just don’t know when that will be.
“We miss Annan High Street – we have actually had a number of Annan people come over to our Castle Douglas store and I can still post things out to people, we have plenty stock.”
