Heather Dobbin will run 65km in three days — just over half a marathon a day — to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The charity challenge is especially close to Heather’s heart as her dad is currently receiving chemotherapy at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary Oncology Unit.
Dad George Braid, chairman of Moffat Show, has bowel cancer and Heather says treatment during covid is particularly hard as patients are not allowed anyone in with them.
She said: “This is a massive challenge, but I want to do something positive.
“DGRI Oncology Unit have previously provided him with excellent care, so we want to be able to support them in their work.
“Covid is particularly difficult for cancer patients as they aren’t allowed anyone in with them whilst receiving chemo so we would like our donation to be used to help patients feel more comfortable during treatment.”
Revealing a little about her training, Heather said she has experience of half marathons.
She said: “I have completed a good few half marathons, but never three in a row.
“To train for the 65k challenge, I’ve been running three or four times a week along with strength sessions, so I’m getting used to running on heavy legs.
“I’ve been increasing my mileage and have done a few double runs too so hopefully I’m as prepared as I can be.”
