School holiday changes

CHRISTMAS holidays are to be cut short, it has been announced this week.

School pupils are to lose a day at the end of their Christmas break in order to make a long weekend for the Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon this week confirmed the movement of the late May Bank Holiday in 2022 and the introduction of a Bank Holiday to celebrate the royal occasion on Thursday June 2.

Dumfries and Galloway does not haave a late May Bank Holiday and so the local authority has sought an additional day’s closure, which will be drawn from the winter break.

Pupils will now return on Friday January 7, instead of Monday January 10.
