Lisa’s on Russian beat

A POLICE officer from Annan is part of Scotland’s rugby squad competing in Russia this weekend.

Constable Lisa Ritchie is a member of the Scotland Women’s Rugby Sevens team who are playing in the European Grand Prix Series.
The 26-year-old, who normally assumes the fly half or centre positions, currently plays for Carlisle Cougars after starting her career with Annan Rugby Club, and has represented the full Scotland 15s team for three seasons in the Six Nations tournament.
PC Ritchie, who is stationed at Dalbeattie, said: “I am delighted to have been selected to travel to Russia to represent my country in the sport I love. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and be playing in the Scotland jersey again.
“I have been very lucky that I have been given the support and backing from my supervisors in Police Scotland to enable me to do this.”
The Scotland team are drawn in Pool A alongside Russia, Portugal and Italy and will play their matches tomorrow. If successful they will then play again in another pool on Sunday.
Other teams involved in the competition include England, Wales, Ireland, Spain, Ukraine, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
