And now work to refurbish the old library building on Charles Street is set to get underway to make it fit for purpose.
The premises was given to the charity from Dumfries and Galloway Council in a community asset transfer, but it requires £250k of renovations within the next two years.
Manager Emma Irving said: “Since the beginning it has always been an ambition to have a purpose-built day centre within the locality.
“Our current location in the Market Hall was an asset for the project to get off its feet, but with the growth and development this opportunity could not have come at a better time.
“We will be able to deliver the homely environment, extend our days, deliver more services, and have safe parking and an outside area for our members to enjoy.”
She also explained that the Charles Street building will be vital in supporting all the new developments and secure the future of the centre for generations to come.
The day centre committee was supported in their work by the Creetown Initiative, which will now project manage the capital project.
Emma added: “We have every faith we will deliver the new home for the centre.
“With a lot of hard work to be done, we do require public help and support to ensure this happens.
“We have a crowdfunding page which can be found via our Facebook page, and donations can be handed into the day centre.”
Already two donations of £1000 each have been made to the day centre, as well as a number of smaller sums.
They are also looking for six local businesses to sponsor the project.
Thanks have been extended to the late Andrew Ward, who helped drive the scheme forward, and also to Jaime Nicholson, for her support, advice and guidance.
