Members of St George’s Church of Scotland, in Dumfries, were on hand last week to load boxes of gifts for the first stage of their journey to children living in impoverished circumstances.
The Christmas boxes had been collected and filled by St George’s church members and friends as part of the annual project run by national charity Samaritan’s Purse.
Local organiser Juliet Robertson, of St George’s, said: “ It’s a great joy for us to see how our members and friends engage with this project, and I’m delighted that 166 boxes have been filled and will be on their way to children elsewhere in the world.
“I’m so grateful for all those who have contributed and all those who have helped with packing and wrapping the boxes and turning out today to load the van.”
Collecting the completed shoeboxes was Christine Leadbeater of St Andrew’s Church, Annan, who is the local co-ordinator for the appeal.
The St George’s ‘pick-up’ was one of several being undertaken in the Dumfries and Lochmaben area on Thursday before the van made the onward journey to the main distribution/collection warehouse in Glasgow.
