Quiz night for defib fund
QUIZ NIGHT . . . club president Alan Kay

A FUNDRAISER is being held this weekend in an effort to make Annan’s sports clubs safer.

The town’s bowling club has organised the event for Saturday night, with all proceeds going towards a new defibrillator, which can significantly increase the chances of survival after a heart attack.

Club president Alan Kay explained that the idea to have the life-saving equipment installed at the Seaforth Avenue bowling centre came after a member had a close call recently.

He said: “Following an incident earlier this year when one of our members collapsed at the bowling club, we realised that there was not a defibrillator in the area.”

Mr Kay added that the club will not be the only group benefiting from the new device.

He said: “There are three other sporting clubs within a few hundred yards of the bowling green – the tennis club, cycle club and pigeon club – whose members could all benefit from one being readily available in the event of an emergency.”

He hopes the quiz can raise the £1000 needed to buy it and urged townsfolk to take part.

Teams of up to four are invited to enter for £10, with a top prize of £100 up for grabs. There will also be a raffle and a bar.

Those attending should arrive at around 7 pm to start at 7.30 pm.
