Town hall should be jab centre

FRESH calls have been made for Lockerbie Town Hall to be reinstated as a vaccination centre.

Members of Lockerbie and District Community Council are concerned residents are at an increased risk of catching covid by travelling to other parts of the region for their booster jab.

The town hall had been a drop-in centre until the NHS decided it was no longer required in late October.

This meant Lockerbie residents have had to travel to vaccination centres in Moffat, Annan and Canonbie.

And now with the Omicron variant and restrictions being announced, they feel it’s time for the town hall to be re-opened as a vaccination centre.

Community councillor Doreen Jenkins said: “Under the present circumstances they should be opening the town hall back up as a drop-in centre.

“They ought to be offering vaccinations in Lockerbie. Why do we have to go all these miles to get the vaccine?”

Chairwoman Jan Andrews added: “We’re emphasising the need for a centre in Lockerbie

“The government has come out with restricting movement. The point of why it’s important. But asking people to go to other towns is increasing the risk of people catching covid.”

NHS Dumfries and Galloway were contacted for comment.
