Concerns raised over town’s pothole plague

THE state of some of Lockerbie’s roads is a “increasing concern” says the town’s community council chairwoman.

But the local authority say they won’t be fixed until the next financial year, after April.

Group leader Jan Andrews says she has received numerous complaints from residents in Queensberry Road, Alexandra Drive and Maxwell Court about a massive stretch of potholes in their areas.

And Ms Andrews said: “Some of the potholes are unavoidable and that wide that it’s an accident waiting to happen. It needs to be addressed immediately.”

Further to the community council raising the matter, and with residents getting in touch directly, Annandale North councillor Stephen Thompson stated he has been in touch with the local roads department.

He said: “They need to go further than just patching the holes on Queensberry Road and to programme a good length of overlay to improve both the structure and surface of the road, from the junction at Alexandra Drive, past Broomhouse Stores and up to Maxwell Court.

“The King Edward estate needs investment from both Dumfries and Galloway Council and DGHP to improve the public realm and improve the condition of some of the paths, walls, car parks and roads for everyone’s benefit.”

Responding to the concerns, a council spokesman this week said: “We are aware of the road condition in Queensberry Road. We are currently compiling our programme of surfacing works for 2022/23 and Queensberry Road will be considered for inclusion.”
