Bankfoot battles first covid outbreak

‘A VERY difficult set of circumstances’ are in force at a Moffat care home.

Having managed to remain covid free through the pandemic, Bankfoot

is now dealing with its first cases of the virus.

Public Health has this week confirmed that a number of residents have tested positive and several cases have also been found among the staff team, while others are isolating as close contacts.

As result, Bankfoot is now closed to admissions and transfers, with all visiting suspended too.

However, as most staff and residents have been vaccinated the home’s trustees hope many will not become very unwell – but described the situation as ‘very worrying’.

They thanked staff for their responsiveness and for providing the highest possible level of care even though reduced staffing numbers are making this very difficult.

The team is working closely with public health and have beem assured that their practices and infection control protocols are as effective as they can be.

Board of trustees chair Lydia Burnett said: “It’s at times like this that we are reminded of the extraordinary qualities displayed every day by staff in care homes. Staff are working additional shifts and flexibly picking up on whatever needs to be done to ensure that are residents get the care they need.

“Our staff show us what commitment, care and professionalism really mean.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership confirmed they are currently “monitoring and supporting action to address positive cases in eight care homes spread out within the whole region”.
