Changes afoot for station office hours

A CONSULTATION is underway on plans to alter the opening hours of the ticket office at Lockerbie Station.

ScotRail are proposing to change it from the current operating times of 7.30 am-8.45 pm Monday to Saturday to 7 am to 8.20 pm instead.

And on Sundays from 2.50 pm-10.20 pm as it is now to 10.10 am to 5.50 pm instead.

They also released ticket office sales information showing the busiest periods at Lockerbie: Mondays to Thursdays, it’s between 7-10 am; Friday is 7-11 am; Saturday is 8 am to 1 pm, then again 3-5 pm; and there are fewer services on a Sunday so the spikes are at 10 am and 2 pm.

ScotRail said: “It is important to note that the data used for the review was from 2019 and represents a period not impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated fall in customer numbers.”

However, South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has pointed out that prior to the pandemic the station opened at 6.45 am to serve commuters catching trains that leave the station just after 7 am.

He said: “Whatever ScotRail might say, these cuts will hit passengers, threaten jobs and undermine station safety.

“We won’t get people back on trains by cutting rail services to the bone.”

A 21 day consultation period started yesterday and feedback can be given by either writing to Transport Focus Freepost (RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ), PO Box 5594, Southend on Sea, SS1 9PZ or by email to [email protected].
