Councillors on Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Education and Learning Committee this week were given an update on progress to replace Dumfries High School, refurbish Dumfries Academy and relocate Loreburn Primary School.
And it was confirmed that construction will commence around the second quarter of 2024 and conclude at the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, demolition of the existing high school will take place during the first half of 2026.
In January, confirmation was received from the Scottish Government that the Dumfries High School element of the DLT phase bid had been successful.
And Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the education committee, this week said: “I’m delighted that we’re now progressing Dumfries Learning Town phase 2 with the replacement of Dumfries High School.
“Following on from North West Community Campus and St Joseph’s College, this is the next step in the transformation of Dumfries Learning Town.”
The refurbishment of Dumfries Academy and relocation of Loreburn Primary School continue to be priority projects for DLT phase 2.
The refurbishment works at Dumfries Academy will be fully funded through the council’s Capital Investment Strategy, which isn’t predicated on aligning with Scottish Government funding conditions. The funding for relocating Loreburn Primary School will also be solely through the council’s Capital Investment Strategy.
