QUEENSBERRY Boxing Club will have three contenders at today's Boxing Scotland National Novice Championships.

This year’s event, which has attracted nearly 800 boxers, will be held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports facility in Motherwell.

And hoping to make their mark are Jack Jones, 60kg; Cody Matthew, 67kg; and Kaden Large at 71kg – pictured above with their coaches.

Queensberry Boxing Club was formed in 2019 and is held at West Moss-side, Cummertrees, with training nights held from 6-8 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a kids/junior session on Tuesday evenings 6-7.30 pm.

Meanwhile, 12 boxers from Solway Spartans gym in Annan will also take part in the championships over the next two weeks.

Their head coach Terry Bruton hopes the hard work his boxers have put into training will help them in the championships.

He said: “We’re really looking forward to the event. I’m always nervous before the bouts but I have every confidence in our boxers.

“They have all trained hard and even put in extra hours. We’ve had a good camp and it will be great to go up against some of the big boy clubs across Scotland.

“It’s great to get out back boxing after the last couple of years and hopefully we can bring back some gold.”
