Man recovers after lorry collision

A LOCKERBIE man is recovering in hospital in Newcastle after being struck by a lorry at a sawmill.

Scott Sloan, 31, was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle last Friday afternoon after he was hit at the Forest Sawmills site north of Lockerbie.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and an air ambulance was scrambled to convey him for medical treatment.

Scott is recovering well, and yesterday wanted to thank all those who have helped him and those who are keeping his spirits up.

Despite his injuries, Scott has managed to get up on his feet this week.

And he has thanked everyone for their kind messages and said he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the number of people getting in touch to wish him well.

He added: “Thank you to all the emergency help, and big praise to all staff at Royal Victoria in Newcastle.”

And he was given an extra boost when

he received a personal video message from the goalkeeper of his beloved Celtic FC.

Speaking from his car, player Joe Hart said in the recording: “Hi Scott. It’s your pal Joe here, mate. Just sending you best wishes, hoping for a speedy recovery. Let’s try and get you back to Celtic Park soon pal.”

And the short clip had the desired effect, as Scott said he felt ‘so lucky’ to receive the ‘something special’.

After the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the collision, saying: “Officers were called to a report of a man having been struck by a lorry at an industrial site, north of Lockerbie, around 2.55 pm on Friday, 4 February, 2022.

“The 31-year-old man was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment to injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware of the incident.”
