And this year the love town hosted 18 ceremonies in venues across both Gretna and Gretna Green on Monday.
February 14th had dawned grey and overcast but the skies cleared and the sun even came out as the day got underway and happy couples from across the country pledged their troths across anvils, in hotels, up aisles and at the registration offices.
Confetti was thrown, photos were taken and champagne was quaffed to celebrate their unions.
And DNG Media editor Fiona Reid and photographer Steve Matthew were on hand to meet some of the newlyweds and capture the romance of it all.
Meanwhile, the town is preparing to do it all again next week on the unique palindrome date of 22/2/22 when 32 ceremonies are scheduled to take place there.
