Globus Group owns Alpha Solway and is already the UK’s biggest personal protection equipment manufacturer.
As well as its Dumfriesshire sites, it is located in England, Italy and Germany as well.
They revealed more about their expansion plans to Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson, when he toured the Dumfries plant, which makes face masks, visors, respirators and protective clothing.
Praising them, Mr Carson said: “The story Alpha Solway has to tell is quite incredible, particularly in the way they stepped up to the mark and from a standing start went on to produce millions of face masks for the Scottish and UK NHS. They have quite literally been life-savers!
“It is extremely heartening to see the remarkable progress that they have made in recent times and their commitment to the local area.
“They have shown incredible innovation throughout the pandemic and ensured their PPE was of the highest standard.
“I was delighted to meet up with Steven Binnie who heads up Alpha Solway, manager Kevin Proudfoot and Will Frost from Globus as well as a number of the workers to learn of their future plans. It is all very exciting and I am thrilled that they have chosen to expand their operations locally.”
Steven Binnie, director at Alpha Solway, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Finlay to our current factory at Lochside Industrial Estate and to show him our new site at Heathhall.
“We are proud that by setting up the factory in Dumfries we not only created hundreds of jobs but also produced millions of masks for the NHS.
“Our plans are now to create a centre of excellence for PPE in Dumfries, creating new products, generating new jobs, and developing a more sustainable PPE system.”
