After two years of being cancelled, many of the usual traditions are set to return to Dumfries this summer.
And the programme will have some special additions to incorporate 90 years since the Guid Nychburris in 1932, and to also mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Cornet Elect for 2022 is Ross Findlater and his lass elect is Robyn Peden – pictured above.
Queen of the South elect Kady Kirkpatrick will be supported by key bearer Kloe Turner and attendants Casey Gilmour and Derri Love.
This year’s Lynors are Cameron Robertson, Robert Neill, William Black and Ross Boyd; while Pursuivant Rangit Thomas will be joined by Gordon Nichol and Bob Kennedy as his Persuivant’s Men.
The Guid Nychburris Festival Association (GNFA) chairman John Caskie is looking forward to the planned celebrations.
He said: “Along with the Dumfries Cornets Club and Queen of the South Association, GNFA have been working tirelessly with the support of other community groups, Dumfries and Galloway Council officers, Police Scotland, and others, as arrangements take shape for Guid Nychburris 2022.
“Having unveiled this year’s principals at the official launch night on Wednesday, the GNFA are pleased to announce diary dates for 2022, details of some of the events are still to be confirmed, while other events being hosted by community groups, with the support of the GNFA, are still to be announced.”
In addition, events including children’s handwriting and football will be held in early June, design competitions for pubs, cafes, shops, offices, homes etc will be held in the run up to the big day, with judging taking place the week before Guid Nychburris Day itself on June 18.
Mr Caskie added: “It’s hoped that folks will decorate their premises as Guid Nychburris bounces back after the two-year hiatus.
“Let’s ‘decorate Dumfries’ for Guid Nychburris 2022.”
Applications for the 2022 Guid Nychburr and Junior Guid Nychburr are being sought.
Full details of all competitions and events will be regularly announced on the GNFA Facebook page.
